An Appalling Display of Bigotry from the New Yorker

New Yorker cover

Dear New Yorker Assholes,

Your cover of the New Yorker this week featuring Michelle and Barack Obama dressed up as "terrorists" is atrocious, sexist, racist, uninformed, and unbelievably offensive. I cannot BELIEVE that the NEW YORKER would agree to print such a thing. It is NOT ironic. It is NOT funny. Not only does your cover feed into the beliefs of many uninformed assholes in this country (who already privately believe that the Obamas are Muslim and therefore "terrorists"), but it also gives them the impression that, if the (formerly) well-respected New Yorker is doing so, then it must be okay to publicly assert such lies and bigotry. I would have thought that a magazine with such a large respected following would give more thought to the influence it has on people's beliefs before propagating such vile bigotry.

Don't you DARE put me on your email list.
~Sarah

I have to disagree big time. It's satire. It's funny. The cover makes fun of the stereotypes people already have and shows how absolutely ridiculous they are. Not to mention, the "terrorist fist jab" was coined by Fox News in a segment where a commenter made a remark about the Obamas doing the fist jab, if anything the cover makes fun of the people in the media who would actually come up with such an idea.

I'm mixed on it. I could see how certain people might not get the satire just as some people might not get Bruno, but I think anyone who reads the New Yorker would understand the 'joke'.

Definitely not funny. This sort of thing does nothing to heal any divides between people. It just fosters misunderstanding.
